ABENE was founded in 1938 under the name AB E N Eklund’s Mechanical Workshop, by founder and owner Ellas Napoleon Eklund. In 1942, series production of ABENE milling machines began, with 54 machines produced in the first year.

Till dags dato har mer än 8 000 ABENE verktygsmaskiner levererats. Maskinerna såldes under namnet ABENE och företagets namn ändrades snart till detsamma.

In 1961, the company was split into two parts: assembly, sales, and the technical department remained in Stockholm, while the production of all components was located in Valdemarsvik. In the early 1980s, a decision was made to consolidate the entire operation in Valdemarsvik, which had recently become the site for final assembly and inspection before delivery. In July 2020, following the bankruptcy of Abene Machines, all spare parts and documentation were moved to VEMU, and later on July 15, 2021, to Storebro Industrier Nya AB. In March 2025, we at PAVE acquired the brand.
